Great Roasts
CounterClockwise Comedy currently roasts movies at The Screenland Theatre at The Crossroads at 16th and Washington in Kansas City. The idea is that we find a movie taking itself a bit too seriously; Showgirls for example. Then Screenland shows the movie while we sit in the back row with microphones cracking wise, replacing lines, pointing out production screw-ups and deconstructing cheesy performances. If you’ve ever seen an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, you know exactly how this plays out.
CCC started movie roasting at Screenland in the summer of 2008 after being selected from a field of eight possible Kansas City improvisational troupes that auditioned for the gig. The audition consisted of roasting the first 20 minutes of Total Recall for Screenland’s owners. After landing the job, and several successful roasts throughout the rest of the year (Hackers, Showgirls, Friday The 13th, Total Recall, Dirty Dancing and Speed) Screenland has renewed CCC’s contract for 2009.
If you have a movie you’d like to see roasted, please let us know. You can shoot us a quick email over at the contact page.
