(The lighting is bad. And it will be until we’re not poor, so bear with me…)

This improv game is The Rant Conductor. (Other names may be Rant Symphony / Rant Orchestra / Emotional Orchestra.) Just as the name implies you have one improvisor “conduct” the other improvisors as they explore an emotional state based on a suggestion the audience.

PROS:

You get several ask-fors, or audience suggestions, in a row right away. This makes a good opener/ice-breaker, because it warms up the crowd and gets several of them participating at once.

Theoretically, the numbers of players in the game are limitless as long as you have a conductor that can manage them.

Fun and fast laughs as the conductor hams it up during his/her entrance.

This is a great chance for improvisors to explore their “Emotional Ten.”

Plays well as a character game.

CONS:

Individual rants are easily lost as the “orchestra” comes to a crescendo.

MISC:

You could easily performs this as a Rant Duet with two players and a dueling banjo vibe.

This is a great game to practice listening while speaking and sharing the stage.

Call additional players forward for solos during the performance is fun.
